در این آزمایشگاه روش¬هایی عددی برای هندسه¬هایی که در آن¬ها جریان و انتقال حرارت به صورت پیچیده رخ می¬دهد انجام می¬شود. این موارد شامل، مرزهای متحرک، جریان سه¬بعدی، سطح آزاد، تعامل سازه با سیال، کاربردهای بایو و نانو، موضوعات بین رشته¬ای و انرژی¬های نو می¬باشند. هم¬چنین روش-های مدرن سی-اف-دی شامل روش¬های بر-اساس-ذره، روش¬های لاگرانژی و مولکولی، روش¬های آماری نیز گسترش گسترش داده می¬شوند.
برای راه اندازی این آزمایشگاه و تجهیز آن با سه دستگاه کامپیوتر پرسرعت از جایزه دکتر کاظمی آشتیانی به میزان 200 میلیون ریال استفاده شده است.
